WHAT about: The future by Ravi Karkara

‘What I like to see in the future is more equality, more social inclusion’.

Ravi is a global advocate on human rights and human capability approach to development, advocating social development, social inclusion and social justice for over 18 years. Currently he is working as the Global Expert Advisor on Children and Youth with UN-Habitat and with UN Millennium Campaign Headquarters, based on New York. He represents UN-Habitat as the co-chair of the UN Interagency Network on Youth Development. He has been appointed by the Government of Sri Lanka as the Honorary Global Advisor to the proposed World Conference on Youth in 2014 on youth perspective in developing post-2015 development agenda. He has advised various governments on empowerment of young women and young men, some of these include countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Norway, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Sri Lanka and Japan among others. He has been instrumental in initiating intergenerational youth-government dialogues such as the Junior-8 Summit, a formal sub-event of G8; African Youth Assembly with AU and Y-20 summit, a parallel event to G20. Ravi also has extensive experience in knowledge creation and management with young people having authored over 75 publications, created community of practice and web-portals and produced award winning documentaries.
